HOW I BECAME A BOSS BTCH IN PARIS
Paris, the city of love and romance - that’s what they say at least. But my story is a bit different. I came to Paris with a one way ticket and now 7 years later, this is the place I call home. A young woman from Detroit, made her way as a boss, entrepreneur, mogul and connector of the people. Everyone asks me all the time ‘Aalyiah, what do you do?’ Ha! Easy answer - EVERYTHING! But my favorite part is being an entrepreneur. 🙂 If you've always dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur in Paris, here are some essential tips on mindset and skill set that I have cultivated that can help you along your journey.
Cultivate a Growth Mindset
One of the most important factors I have cultivated while becoming a successful entrepreneur is having a growth mindset. This means having the belief that you can learn and develop your skills over time. Although many times I could not feel my growth in real time, in hindsight I was proud for pushing through. I learned that pushing through obstacles sharpened all of my skills.
Be Passionate & Purposeful
For me, successful entrepreneurs are driven by their passion and purpose. Find something you are deeply passionate about and use it as a driving force for your business idea. Passion will fuel your motivation, creativity, and determination in the face of obstacles. Additionally, having a clear purpose will not only motivate you but also attract others who believe in your mission.
Develop a Strong Network
Developing a community has been my strong point. Many opportunities i have gained has been through the people I have met along the way. Paris offers numerous networking opportunities, from industry-specific conferences to startup events. Make an effort to connect with people who can offer knowledge, resources, or potential collaborations. Join entrepreneurial communities, attend workshops, and surround yourself with individuals who share similar goals and aspirations. Or make your own - I did.
Continuously Learn and Adapt
The business world is constantly changing, and as an entrepreneur, it is essential to stay ahead of the curve. Embrace a lifelong learning mindset. Attend industry conferences, participate in workshops, and read books and articles from successful entrepreneurs. This ongoing education will equip you with the knowledge and insights necessary to make informed decisions and adapt your business strategy as needed.
Hone Your Skills
In addition to a growth mindset, developing a strong skillset is essential for every entrepreneur. Identify the key skills required for your industry and dedicate time to develop them. These skills may include marketing, finance, communication, leadership, or specific even skills regarding international taxes & visa applications. Consider taking courses, online tutorials, or even partnering with a mentor who can guide you in honing these skills.

I know it’s cliche to say to ‘be you because everyone else is taken’ but honestly it’s the truth. It is important to walk in a room as if you were meant to be there - because you were. Stand tall and walk with your head held high no matter the space or place. Just by being you it makes any room you enter more interesting.
Remember, becoming an entrepreneur in Paris is not an easy task, but with the right mindset and skillset, you can pave the way for success. Stay passionate, constantly learn and adapt, and surround yourself with a supportive network of like-minded individuals. Embrace the challenges and celebrate the wins. With determination and perseverance, your entrepreneurial journey in Paris can truly be a dream come true. I know for me it has!
